Cognizant (CTS) forced resignations : Employees Fightback!

It is not easy to stand up to a multi billion dollar corporate company. Fear factor instilled by the company and hostile political environment  make it worse for the employees.

But, employees can gather strength by joining together as a Union. Some of the affected CTS employees are discussing their issues in a group co-ordinated by NDLF – IT Employees Wing.

Some of the experiences (all names removed, some spellings corrected, comments added in square brackets)

1.HR says all MS rated people have to resign

HR is calling me for a discussion again. I pushed a mail with my resignation withdrawal email till AVP level.

“I have been forced to leave the job, which amounts to illegal retrenchments. I have joined Cognizant as a fresher [removed] & this was the first appraisal process i have gone through so far. I have never Accepted MS rating & even if i got MS, I deserve one more chance in the organisation. I want clarification for the MS rating given to me.

I am withdrawing the resignation, which i submitted due to pressure given by HR. Please approve resignation withdrawal request as i want to continue my journey with CTS.”

She called me in office for a meeting [removed]. I told I can’t reach. She told she will talk with AD and call me later. [removed] they have called me for a discussion.

3 of them were in the discussion I had with Associate director of hr.

They r saying we have not given any pressure to resign as there is no opportunities for MS people you have resigned.
[But they also say that] We clearly instructed NOT to allocate MS associates to projects even though managers r ready to take.

HR said all MS people’s have to resign. Even if they have project in hand. HR telling that MS associates don’t get projects is just a trick

I won’t resign!


Just now I am done with the discussion with HR. She was forcing me to resign today itself. I said i won’t resign. She said you got MS rating and in bench, now you are in PDP. If you u come to CDP you will not have any option. I said that time I will resign but not now.

She was forcing me to resign now. She said I cannot extend more, I have given you enough time. if you won’t resign, I will take some other step.

For rating, she says you could have dropped a mail after discussion with your manager. Since its almost a month i cannot to anything. No one can change the rating after entering in the system. So I have not dropped any mail.

Also grievance addresal this year is not there. Only option is to fight legally. ..

3. If they had rights to terminate they won’t even bother to ask us to resign

Guys who have not resigned yet, don’t resign. HR they can’t do anything. Just they are forcing and making us to resign.

Be strong, we are not slaves. They cannot buy us for 4 month compensation.

Tell them I won’t resign, do whatever you want.

Anyways they don’t have rights to terminate. If they had rights to terminate they won’t even bother to ask us to resign. Just we will get the termination mail which they cannot do. So please be strong and say u won’t resign. It won’t affect your career nothing.

I know One MS visa person is not sent to onsite. His onsite opportunity is denied. Even we were told to release all MS associates from project even though we wanted them to be retained. Came from top management to manager levels

People are very worried as they have small kids, few have just joined school etc.

But one thing l saw that managers r also not liking these actions. …all r coming from topmost levels. [To see from where the pressure really comes from read this]

Managers were forced to give ms… numbers were fixed and then associates were fitted in. First it was 5% then when the appraisal cycle was abt to over it was increased to 7%. Many people r frustrated by seeing or hearing these. Just started. ..will go till may end. 15000 is not a small number. 7% of 2.5 lakhs.

Today one of my team member who is in bench was made to resign. She is in Chennai.

I today spoke to labour comm officer. He told to file a petition.


The fight will go on.. More and more will join in.. It will be taken to the legal courts and the court of public opinion. Finally the Davids’ will win!

    I was in Bench n they told my profile has been masked. So hr asked to resign n they only they can provide project allocation. In order to get project I provided my resignation. He told once I get allocation i can do withdrawal. After then appraisal came n I was rated as ms. Now they are not approving my withdrawal even though I am in project now. Pls some one help me out?

    I too got call from HR and I am forced to resign, they said to resign if not they will take action up on that and he siad we won’t give documents properly. So that I resigned, the ratings which they had given is not genuine. We didn’t expect this from a big company as we joined 1year back and that too this is our first rating. I too got project and completed client interview with successful. But they didn’t gave allocation for project. Even I didn’t accept my rating but they are saying that we cannot revert back and you don’t have option and the only option is to resign. If not we will go for terminayion for further process and not getting proper documents. And what they are saying is we have pressure from heigher management so we are putting on you. Is this is the way such a big company has to do?

    They company is blaming the employee as they got MS. How the ratings are given in a proper way absolutely not?
    So please revert back the employes into the company.

    Same sort of treatment was dished out under shady circumstances. I have been working with Capgemini for close to 6 years. Suddenly my rating was changed to 5. When I rejected my rating they changed it to 4. As if they were giving alms to beggars. I fought back logically stating that I have not received any ratings other than 3 during my tenure in Capgemini. Suddenly how come my rating was given as 5, which means termination. They kept on explaining that I was a poor performer. I explained a poor performer can’t stay in an MNC for 6 years and that too in the industry for 14 years. Also I have enough customer appreciations to justify my stand that I don’t deserve a 5. Then they changed it to 4 and put me in PIP(Performance Improvement Plan). After that gave me only time till 31st March and suddenly on 1st March told me that my Last working day would be on 31st March 2017. I need not resign. Automatically I would be terminated. System generated mail would come. As I didn’t accept the rating of 4. I told them that I don’t deserve a rating of 4 or 5. Rating should be changed asap. They didn’t and then forcefully terminated me on 31st March 2017. Paid only 3 months Notice Pay that’s all. This is a clear case of injustice meeted out to me.I want to take legal recourse.As I have sufficient proof that that due to headcount reduction they forcefully terminated me on grounds of poor performance. Whereas I have appreciation mails all through the year.

    We need to form the union and fight with these giants legally otherwise we Indians will still do the slavery for next 100 years of these US people one or the other form .

    When u all were living in luxury…never bothered rest of d world, spoiled real estate , consumer price in many big cities, u all never thought of rest if the world. If a bank clerk join in a city like Blore he/she is paid less than 15k!! Can u afford a small house for rent n live wth rest?? U pls check in blore ir chennai real estates… All flats r built for also Malls.. killing the nature n environment filling lakes.. Blore was a beautiful city before IT ruined it. Its ur fault. When BEL makes profit they invest on employees thiers schools facilities canteen etc etc.But ur
    Bosses ate money.. took wealth by their foreign directors.YOU NEED TO FIGHT AGAINST THESE SLAVERY.. Stall IT FOR 1 WEEK. LET NO ONE GO FOR WORK FOR 1 WEEK…

  1. The same is the case with MphasiS, they have made several senior leader ladies to forcefully resigned. People spenders more the 75% of their careers with MphasiS and got appreciated as pillars awards… but all that in vein. Top management is merciless and even 5/5 rated resources are asked to leave company as top guys are saving themselves and cutting the productive next layer.
