Fight for A Better Future A Future Worth Living

International Mining Workers 2nd Conference

2017 February 2-5, Godavari Khani, Telengana, India

From the 2nd to 5th February, the coal belt area of Godavarikhani in Telengana is going to play host to the 2nd international mining workers conference. Participants from more than twenty two countries and 4 continents are expected to attend this conference and this is the first time in the history of India that an international conference of mining workers is going to be held. The conference gives an opportunity to understand the state of the mining sector in the world and the concrete issues confronting the workers in this sector. The conference provides a space for the free exchange of life experiences of miners in various countries and their struggles for a better future. It is an expression of international working class solidarity which is an imperative necessity in the present context of world-wide attacks on the various rights of the workers.

The delegates to the general assembly of the first international conference held in Peru in 2013 had proposed that the 2nd conference be held in India. The International Coordination Group (ICG), constituted in the first conference subsequently took the decision to hold the 2nd conference in India in consultation with the various miners unions that are part of the National Preparatory Committee.
