IT Companies, Stop Layoffs : Your Thirst for Profit Costs Lives!

There is a news spreading in WhatsApp that an IT employee of a leading IT company working in Bangalore jumped out of 11th floor and committed suicide. He had a discussion with HR manager and was asked to submit resignation. He has taken this extreme decision immediately after this discussion

This image was received in WhatsApp and we are not able to verify the news from mainstream media. But, as many of our members and IT employees confirm that this tragic incident took place as indicated, we are publishing it here.

Last year, a Techie from Pune Durga Prasad committed suicide and in his suicide note, he mentioned that “job security is not there in IT industry. I am very much worried about my family”. It is very unfortunate that increasing number of people take this extreme decision

We sincerely want IT employees not to take this decision. As part of NDLF, we helped more than 500 employees from termination issues. We spread awareness on legal proceedings and rights of IT employees in various forums. . I am from IT industry working in one of the top 5 leading company in India. NDLF has thousands of employees like me as members. We provide counselling and provide positive support for employees facing layoff threats. We help IT employees to take legal fight if required. So please give us a call and we are here to help you. Don’t ever go for such extreme decisions in life and definitely your life is very important than job or for that matter anything else.

We require IT companies to stop illegal terminations at least from now on. Recently I have seen a news that Infosys completed 25 years of listing in stock market and Rs 10,000 invested in Infosys is worth more than Rs 2 crore now. TCS is coming for Rs 15,000 crore share buyback recently. Definitely employees are the pillar for the heights company reached. The employees working with the company have elderly parents, dependent family and friends, school going kids, housing loan and various other commitments. They are not the resources to be considered as extra baggage and thrown out, but human beings with flesh and blood. Please formulate better procedures to increase profits instead of sacking employees.

Layoffs are happening everywhere and the governments should come forward to stop layoffs. There are increasing layoff incidents in Tech Mahindra and I personally I talked with many of them recently. IT sector employees are one of the highest tax paying members of society and definitely government should formulate strict rules to prevent IT companies doing hire and firing and help IT employees from illegal layoff

Finally I pray God that the suicide news being spread proves to be false. But if it is true, definitely company management is responsible for this incident and government should understand the seriousness of this issue and take action to stop such incidents in future.

Hello Sir, whatever you have mentioned here is absolutely fine and your intent of helping helpless employees is appreciable.
What about non-IT employees who are equally being mistreated and threatened every day in and day out in the similar fashion.

Kindly allow them to be part of your struggle and strengthen your movement in any possible way…….

Do not choose suicide. No Job is worth that. Instead make the company pay for their failure to plan better. Do this by law suit or by seeing it as being freed from slavery of bad management to go to a better job

The management is very bad in DXC Technology(Legacy CSC).
The company force to resigned several people from Noida.
    Even someone working very hard.
There are several project managers they are only consider the employee
    who are buttering.
There should be such rule to avoid this kind of incident in future.

Working for the same company where the suicide took place. Got an official communication as well. Going through similar issues with management. 3 yr old in the Organization, 2 years exceeding expectations rating third year new manager give me poorest of all rating.
Cleared an IJP and was offered promotion. The current manager gave false and a very bad feedback about me to the hiring manager tarnishing my image. I have complained to the HR and its been over a month no action has been taken.
The company has become completely insensitive towards employees.

When i joined 3.3 years back .I have a very good hope on this company that I thought can reach new heights in my career. But stupid soundrel rascals are in the management. After 3 years they gave 7% hike. Not even fresher will work for that or even company watchman is earning more than that.
They not even discuss with the employee and give direct ratings and forceful to acknowledge that.
My manager he is a such a bastard not even give extra penny even though for extra hours continuously working till today last 1 year I am working even in night for support.
They will charge lakhs of rupees billing for client and even they cheat the clients. I don’t know why even client is blind and dumb.
Moreover they say u can leave the company but not project. And encourage to go out and they only refer their own ppl ex collegues and giving them 100 to 150% hike. If they can give 20 to 25% same to the existing employee..It would make huge difference. It is not at all good company for loayals ..It is only good for cheaters, backstabbing ppl, fake workers.

Being part of organised sector we are helpless and no support from govt. At least daily wage workers has ration and many life saving schemes. Govt has to bring rule to it sector that they have to provide 1 yr salary while terminating employment.

I see the trend in IT technology.

    1) technology changing.
    2)skills become absolute.
    3)company force employee to Resign.

    ways to over come
    1)Reskill.
    2)passionate to learn new thing.
    3) help each other.
    4)nurture your entrepreneur skills.
5)look for passion that helps you to grow your skills to business.

It is very sad and unfortunate. The company and HR needs to be sensible on such matters. I am sure Chaitnya was capable to get any other job. Unfortunately management and HR keeps it secret and publish the list suddenly. A life could have been saved if HR was a bit sensible. Chaitnya needed a counceling rather than an order. For employees it is very hard to handle such situation. I request all people to do not take such action because of such companies. There of lot of things and opportunities in life. These companies are nothing in comparison to what you can do.

Very rightly said. No company is worth it. Giving your life away for a company was something he should not have done. No one should take such extreme steps of ending their life. Think about the loved ones who are left behind. How sad they will feel .

Very unfortunate and the HR department, well what can i say… The HR heads and the so called managers are all HR students who must have been taught about employee management in universities… but in reality they are just insensitive people . I wonder whether people who work in HR are actually qualified for it ? The so called HR policies are just for reading only?

PMS and appraisal process is just a farce and your growth depends a lot on your manager and their ratings If not always, well mostly it is the case and we all see it everyday. Favoritism is a common phenomenon . Its such a scary situation and nothing is done to stop this..

young kids are taking their lives due to percentage pressure, employees are taking their lives due to lack of job security, Government doesn’t care.. all they do is implement one policy after the other and busy collecting GST and taxes.

Where are we heading … the more i think of it, the more lost i get..is human life so irrelevant these days that nobody cares ? why cant there by proper Hire and Fire policies implemented ? Even if the company wants to sack an employee due to any performance related issue, at least there should be a policy that gives the employee certain timeline to find another job. How can a company just fire someone just like that ? someone and their dependants lives depend on that ..

i request all companies to be a little more sensitive and implement a policy that safeguards an employee in some way if not in terms of Job security.

Dont be so mean. I sincerely request.

I am deeply saddened,,I work in the same company and its difficult to digest that the person who commited suicide used to sit few seats near my place .
I was in deep shock n still I am ,,I barely knew the person n spoke to him few time early in the office everyday ..he used to come around @8 -9 am n turn on lights in our seating section everyday ..It’s just sad to see this person diapear in thin air .
Got rumours that he sat n cried in cafeteria on top 11th floor n ran immediately outside the open space n jumped before the cleaning staff tried to stop him.
The worst part was almost everybody in our office took it lightly as what I saw ,,people were criticizing him for taking this step n at certain point it’s correct but one cannot know what in mental state he was.
The body was taken immediately police did investigation n nothing we heard after that .
No condolences mail or message by the company till now .
This happened in RGA techpark which belongs one of the ruling state govt MP . This may be the reason they are suppressing it .. I am not sure whether it was due to layoff or personal issue since it’s clear yet but as per rumours it said he got termination letter the same morning but one colleague just died n people in IT are so soulless who continued to work on the next hour thid tragedy happened.
Dxc.technology is laying off employees cat n dog ,,n no sallary normalisation for people working for 3+years n no proper hikes ,,they have target of 5k to be laid off soon n they are just doing it whether one lives or dies . This is highly unprofessional from this company.

After the merger with HP ES, DXC is now laying off people in India. With no plans and full of corruption in management all talented people are being laid and the employees who are corrupt are being retained. Worst company ever in IT history. I repent to stay with such a crap company

I lost my job in 2010 due to greed of a company (read one of top 5 companies of the world). I had loans and cards running more than 10 lakh which was big at that time, heck its even big money for employees today. I could easily manage if i was employed. no one gave me a job because i would refuse to lick boots and say yes sir. So I struggled for 3 years and never even thought once to die. because why should i die coz of some greedy company.

so this greedy company had all this money in this arabian-funded bank which they call american with pride. Now i thought, i cannot pay them, but the goons started calling. Now you know what. i took them on and challanged them to recover. I went to my village in gurugram and sat there for a nice few years, while recovering from the crysis. I would invite the recovery agents to recover the money if they had the guts. They never came, because if they did, i would have a force of dozens of brothers and friends to smite the aholes.

Was it right? no. but was i fired right? no, why, because it was an arguement where a client was abusing India and indians and i started a fight. i will again if i came to the same situation.

Years down the line, i have a house i built in cash as no body will lend me. have a good business have a big car. even my collegues who are now vp and gm are in awe. so i think all is well that ends well.

the motto is, its a jungle, dont die, but dont back down from life. fight back, fight the bank goons, the situation and the odds, emerge victorious. you can share my story with others it will encourage them, i am a crorepati today, thanks to loosing my job to the bitch company.

and i feel all IT non IT all companies only care for profit sparing a very few handful, work for those, like tata etc. and work hard.

“I had loans and cards running more than 10 lakh which was big at that time” – so who was greedy? You or the company? Stop blaming others for your stupidity in living beyond your means. Did the company say your job was for a lifetime when you were recruited?

No job is permanent, and while we sympathize much with those who suddenly have lost their job, don’t be foolish enough to blame the employer if someone sadly and foolishly commits suicide after being sacked. If people have the right to give someone a job and a salary, they have a right to take it away. Be realistic, not emotional.
Nothing in life is permanent and 100% guaranteed. If you lose one job, you might get a much better one if you try. Life gets better for those who work very hard, are brave, and see setbacks as stepping stones to greater success. One door closes and a better door opens for those who look for it. Be optimistic and practical, not suicidal. Don’t blame someone else for your own lack of mental strength.

I am working with the organization for more than 3 years. I don’t have any complaint against the organization but I have problem with my team leader. Nobody in the management cares what he does. He always tries to keep the team under his feet. Done lots of automations but never got any appreciations. Rather got stinkers for doing automations. There is no help from the manager. He is supporting him.. not sure what’s the best solution to take this forward. Please advise
