Working women waiting for buses in the bus stops along OMR after 8PM is quite a common scenario.
8 pm is never considered an unsafe timing as the bus stops are crowded enough, which ensures safety. But the question on their safety at the time of their arrivals remains uncertain.
People from various distant places like Tambaram, Perungalathur and Guduvanchery of South Chennai and Thiruvotriyur, Thondairpet, Avadi of North Chennai commute to OMR for work. Reaching these places take 2 hours or more during peak hours.
Considering this if a woman reaches her destination after 10 PM, safety of the journey from the bus stop to home is uncertain, and it is a well-known situation.
As Indians we wake up and talk about an issue after something untoward happens.
But as IT employees, we demand proactive measures. Hence we insist the companies to close the shift for women employees on or before 7 PM. If there is a necessity to extend the working hours for any day, they must be provided home drop.
This would ensure safe to and fro journey for women which is a very basic and fundamental right.
