This video exposes the cruel face of private corporate hospitals (please click on subtitles button for English text).
The way Hemanathan’s mother was treated is, no doubt, an extreme. But whoever goes to such corporate hospitals would have experienced atleast one of the worst aspects of this narrative in a lesser or more degree.
5 star facilities, air conditioned rooms, latest equipment, costly medicines, well designed processes, hundreds of doctors, trained nurses – everything is made to revolve around money.
The treatment is decided not based on the patient’s need, but their ability to pay. If someone is not able to pay, even if they are in dire need of treatment, and even if the treatment is available in the hospital they are denied treatment. Those who are calculated as moneyed will be given even unnecessary or marginally necessary treatments.
A doctor’s duty is to focus on curing the patient’s disease, but they are made into machines focused on money. These corporate hospitals are diseases afflicting our society. We should get rid of this disease and cure the society.
