Wipro Band Intertia : Senior Wipro Employee Continues Fight – The Next Step

This entry is part 12 of 23 in the series Struggle Against Layoffs

=== NDLF Mass Campaign and Legal Fight against Layoffs in Wipro, Cognizant (CTS) ===

Performance appraisal cycle for Q4 is already closed now and all people would have known the rating at this point.

I write this article as a follow up to Wipro’s Layoff Plan : Senior Employee Prepares to Fight. What is happening after the appraisal closure for people who got lower ratings? How we can fight against it?

Most of the people who got lower ratings might have got the call from HR already. The options given by HR for the people are :

  1. Submit the resignation in 1 day. We will pay 2 month salary. You will get relieving letter with good comments on work done with Wipro and conduct. There is no need to come to office and you can search for your next job in the 2 months time
  2. If person refuses to submit the resignation, HR warns them, “if you are not submitting the resignation, we will build termination case. In this case, you will not get proper relieving letter and 2 month salary. You will not get any new job in your career if we terminated.”
  3. If a person did not agree to submit the resignation even after this threat, in certain period of time, resignation is initiated (automated) in the system in the name of employee. Unfortunately automation which is projected by Wipro in large scale is used to generate auto generated resignations against employees. [forgery?]

IT companies do not want to show any retrenchment as this gives negative comments on the company [and lead to legal challenge in courts]. That’s the reason, they are asking employees to submit the resignation. If employees resign on their own, it is general attrition and there is no need for any IT companies to answer anyone for these cases.

That’s the main reason for IT companies making employee to resign and following all un-ethical, dishonest, underhand routes to force employee to resign

I know many people deny and complain that IT companies will not do such things. We formed a WhatsApp group of all employees who are made part of Wipro non-performers and I am writing these details only based on experience from multiple people. If anyone still denies, please refer to the 130+ comments received as part of my previous write up.

I am also WIPRO Employee since past 16 years and I fully agree with the above article. I have lots of Proofs to support the issue mentioned in above article. WIPRO is asking people working in Organization for 10-15 years to leave by giving 2 months notice. They are not offering any VRS or for that matter any benefits. It is high time all the IT employees get organized and fight this.

I have been working in Wipro for the past 14 years, currently Team Lead in a big account, during 3rd week of April my supervisor called me and asked to meet the HR, I was told that i am in the B3 band for 6 years and I have to quit immediately, I was told to resign on the same day. It was a big shock to me. Next week HR threatened me that If i dont resign they will go ahead with the next levels for closure and that will not be good. Yesterday my L2 appraisal was closed and I was given UC – unsatisfactory rating and now there is no chance that I will remain in the organization.

Guys pls fight back and take Wipro CEO to court. I was a victim last month. Band inertia started last year it self every month they are calling employees and asking to resign.

They are finding some reason for us to resign.

Ajay

I have 16 years of experience in Wipro and I myself given least ratings to the team to meet management targets. I was forced to change the ratings from excellent contribution to un satisfactory. People who are on bench also given least ratings to throw them out of the organization. Persons who just crossed 5 years in a band are thrown out of the company irrespective of their performance, I myself is evident for that.

I am feeling very ashamed of serving this company for so many years and there is no value for the loyalty and sincerity, people are just treated as machines and playing with their lives.

There is no respect given to individual and just taking one directional decisions and commanding the employees to resign voluntarily to have smooth exit otherwise threatening them as the case will be treated under termination process by preparing appropriate case sheet.

As I have written in my previous post, if we allow band inertia, after B2 band only 350 of 1000 employees will survive after 7 years. Atleast people who joined earlier, survive in IT till our age of 45. If we continue to proceed like this, in next few years, retirement age in IT will become 35.

The main advantage of IT companies is the real number of people moving out is not known and IT people are not united. To counter this, I request the following things of all people who read this message.

Wipro CEO Abid Ali Neemuchwala

Wipro CEO Abid Ali Neemuchwala

People who are part of low performance rating, please provide the following details to NDLF mail ID (combatlayoff@gmail.com)

a. Your name
b. Your employee number and name
c. Wipro mail id
d. What is the current status of your position in the company

We already have around 30 people who are part of this “WhatsUp” group who is under the so called ‘non performer’ category. We want to collect details of more people and please provide this details immediately to NDLF. The main advantage of doing this is, we will get a better idea about people affected by this and can go for next action.

I request all other people to forward this message to all people whom you know. We can achieve this only if this message is circulated to all employees. We (IT people) are the main reasons who are responsible for various sensational events in social media. We have forwarded many things in our life earlier and this time, I am requesting to forward this message for our own job safety. So please forward this message to all your friends and people whom you know in your projects rated as low performers.

If we make this group of so-called ‘non-performers’ large, it will be easy for us to fight and think abour next steps like filing grievance in labor office or taking this issue to honorable court to ask for stay on these actions.

Please put more comments on your problems/views to this thread also which helps outside world to understand our problem.

===  Wipro Layoffs – NDLF Calls Upon Employees to File Grievance ===

Let us get together, put an end to this corporate overlordship and assert employees’ right to work without fear, with dignity and professional pride.

When employees exit the company ( 15-20% attrition makes it a huge number every year), they are exited always on Friday. Having worked the full week, they are entitled for the week end. Ethically & legally they should get paid for Saturday & Sunday. Thus IT companies cheat on employees and saved thousands of crores in the last 20 years. ( Even if 1 lakh employees change their jobs in a year, the companies save 2 lakh man days of salary which is the salary of 2000 IT Engineers). Please take up this issue with Labour Commissioner and let workers get salary for the weekend too when they leave.

  2. Wiproite

    1) Till 2010, you have annual leave of 21 days and 5 sick leaves for most of the onsite companies. So if employee worked for 1 year, he/she will get 26 days leave. If they return back, they can apply leave for 6 weeks almost (26 working days is 5 weeks and system will generate 3 days for this 1 month leave period and almost 6 weeks). You get onsite salary for 6 weeks. Now after 2010, policy changed and almost all countries has 10 days leave per year only.
    2) if a person last working day at onsite is Friday, he/she get onsite salary for weekends but after 2010, onsite salary is till friday and offshore salary is for week end
    3) If a person stayed at onsite for 2 years, his/her entire family can get 1 free trip back to India. This is reverted back after 2010
    4) If month end comes on week end, salary will be credited on last working day of previous month. After 2010, salary is paid only on 1st working day of next month. For example, 1st Apr and 1st May are holidays, you will get salary on 2nd only
    5) We have tea, coffee with decotion, badam drink, chocolate milk before 2010. Now we have vending machine which has coffee and dip tea.
    6) There are periods where QPLC we get easily as 130-140%. Now average QPLC for all employees is less than 90%. After 2010, there are many accounts which received 0 qplc also
    7) Team celebration budget is 750 per person. But after 2015, it is becoming very difficult to get approval
These are few examples which comes to my mind as of now and there is much more. I am not telling these are wrong ones and some will be good to cut cost and survey the market
But layoffs and not paying any benefits as per law is finally eating the flesh

The party is over guys. Smell the coffee. The IT/ITES people had the dream run for long. You need to reinvent yourself to be competitive.

    1. newdemocrats

IT/ITES employees should reinvent themselves as a collective leaving the individualist partying mindset, that is what you mean, right?.

Then we can stand for our rights, not get bullied by corporate overlords.

  4. Fighter

Why don’t all IT people come together to support our friends. This scenario is prevailing in all companies. Can someone with relevant skill set start a website or app to unite all IT employees.

This is high time now. If it is not stopped then the retirement age of IT proffesional will be 40 only. We are the ones who make these companies succeed and fill pockets of prem ji , abid ali etc. Now they brought us on road. Thankless company and management.

Now that there is a huge attrition, you guys think that it’s a big issue and use this forum.. think of couple of years back when this happened to some other employees.. me being one.. where in, i was held by them with a H1B visa, without any project and asked me to quit.. it was simply because of their shitty policies which I was kept in bench for more than a year.. i myself have found some projects and have asked them to tag me. These so called shitty managers and HRs dont even bothered to take a word from me. And me being a man with a spine, i put down my papers and quit the company.. now that the knife has turned on your side, you feel it awkward. Think of others whom you have fired..

  8. Rajesh

Again and again I;m telling people.. dont fall for these arguments of ‘fighting back’.. what are you fighting back ? I just quit wipro in the last month after more than 11 years. The company is run by dogs now for the last 3 years at least. Only idiots and morons are there as managers. Why on earth will anyone want to work there anymore ? You have 100s of other companies to work for. Why dont join there and be in peace ?

I just searched Naukri.com and can see the huge number of openings for any developer or QA position. Why dont you take this opportunity to move out ? I think the answer is that most of these people have become complacent and did not do any real technical work for the most part. Many of them were just managing, leading etc. They did not produce any real value. The result: Now it is affecting everyone.

Upgrade your skills and join some product company for 2 years. Everything will settle then. IT is undergoing a tornado effect due to Automation. Even if companies want, they cant survive this because the good skilled employees are already working for other product companies. The ones left in wipro, infy etc. are 75 % ineligible people. You ask any random person in wipro to write a program to do a basic sorting. They cant write. The juniors present there are dumb and cant even do basic algorithms.. so realize the situation and be practical. In 2 years, wipro may be closed. So what will you do ?

    1. newdemocrats

      Mr. Rajeshkumar,

Now we are talking about the rights of employees, not career advice from a consultant. Wipro and other IT companies show healthy growth and decent profit. Whatever is there problem, let them come out in open and discuss with employees who are the primary stakeholder of an IT company.

You learn to question the corporates about their underhand, illegal, and un-professional activities, before preaching to IT employees.

  9. PA

All IT guys, Let us plan to have one day off globally in order to show our protest against these monopolies of IT companies. Thos would atleast make them aware that now employees will not tolerate such activities.

  10. Deepak kukreja

IT companies are heading towards a big unionisation and they should be ready to pay price in long run. If they don’t treat there loyal and sincere employees with respect , an environment of mid-trust between employees and management may lead to a Honda / Maruti plant situation, where frustration in employees may reach beyond all the Non-IR benefits IT companies are enjoying in Right to Manage employees. Employeee will be forced to use there right to represent and negotiate to survive.

  11. Fire all vp & sr vp

Pls give paper advertisement to meet all laid off people on specific day. And hold a join rally to vidhansoudha. Then we can draw attention. Else we get burnt.
